Hummus is a great food full of healthy fats and nutrients. The store bought is good but nothing beats homemade! You get to control the ingredients and proportions and it’s so much easier to connect with your food if you make it yourself.
I know eggplant may sound a little weird here but the flavors mesh so well! Eggplant is one of those foods that a lot of people never try so this hummus is also a great way to introduce it to people.

Now, I’m not normally one for rice cakes. They’re not all that filling or flavorful, but recently I started thinking about how they could be used to make quick and easy snacks. All you’d need to do is add some protein and healthy fats along with a bit of flavor.

I love pickles, but when I tried this twist on the traditional “out of the jar” pickles I decided I wasn’t going back. They don’t take too long to make (outside of the parts where you’re waiting, but I’m sure you can find something productive to do during that time). They also end up with a really fresh taste.
These pickles can also be stored in the fridge for up to two weeks so you can make them ahead of time and snack on them all week long!
1 pound pickling cucumbers, sliced
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 cup cider vinegar
1 cup white vinegar
1 cup light brown sugar
1 cup onion cut into slivers
3 cloves garlic cut into slivers
1 tsp dill seed
1 tsp mustard seed
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp dried dill (or 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped) Continue reading
When you’re in need of a quick snack to give you some energy and keep you full until meal time, this is the perfect option! The best part is that it’s so easy to make ahead of time and package in baggies so you can have some any time.
The spicy chipotle helps to curb your appetite along with plenty of healthy fats to leave you feeling full. Just be sure to portion it out ahead of time or you’re going to be eating way too much of it before you realize what you’ve done!
1/2 cups sugar
2 tsp salt
2 tsp ground chipotle pepper Continue reading
